“Invest in imagination: Struggles between creatives and fund controllers”

Art and creativity have always been the cornerstone of human culture and expression. Artists use their creativity to add color and meaning to life. However, the struggle between artists and those who control funding has been a long-standing issue in the creative community. Often, the people with the financial power in companies or funding bodies lack an understanding or belief in the value of art and creativity.

One of the primary reasons for this struggle is the trust deficit. Corporate individuals who manage funds are usually driven by metrics, return on investment, and tangible outputs. Creativity, on the other hand, is intangible and its value is often subjective. This makes it hard for those who control the purse strings to quantify the impact and worth of artistic endeavors.

Moreover, there is often a misalignment in goals. While artists and creatives aim to explore, innovate, and push boundaries, funding controllers may prioritize projects that promise immediate financial returns. This separation leads to frustration among creatives who feel constrained and limited by financial considerations that seem to suffocate their creative expression.

The lack of understanding between the creative community and corporate financial controllers further heighten this issue. Most financiers come from backgrounds where data, predictive analytics (if there’s even any) rule the decision-making process. The unpredictable nature of artistic success doesn’t fit well within their frameworks, leading to a disconnect and a lack of support for truly innovative artistic projects. Rebuilding trust between creative individuals and fund controllers is essential. The gap needs to be filled and reduced aiming at educating financial controllers about the importance of art and creativity. Likewise, artists could benefit from understanding the financial aspects, creating a more coordinated relationship.

Embracing diverse perspectives is essential. Art and creativity are not just about the end product—they're about the journey, the process, and the stories they tell. We must cultivate a culture where financial decisions prioritize cultural and social impacts alongside ROI. Art enriches our society, connects us, and breathes life into our daily existence. Yet, the current system, dominated by corporate mindsets that undervalue art's true essence, threatens creativity. Imagine a world where financial power is shifted to committees of creatives. Picture fostering mutual understanding and valuing diverse perspectives. This vision can usher in a more supportive, thriving artistic community. It's time to renew our trust in creative minds and embrace the profound impact they have on our lives.

Can you imagine your day-to-day existence without the touch of art and creativity around you?
